our hosts
Everywhere pretty much shut down to celebrate this holiday, but then this is America so Starbucks and the local supermarket stayed open.
We celebrated at Justin and Heather's house with Heather's parents and a bunch of their friends, 2 big dogs and 4 children under 5 yrs (inc our 2). The food was really good with a menu of maple and balsamic roasted turkey, some potato/parsnip mash, maple roasted parsnips (made by EK), yams, green bean casserole, fab gravy and 3 different kinds of cranberry sauce. We stuffed ourselves.
Scarlett had a great time playing with her new friend Riley who is the same age, and Sophie was very happy pottering about seeing what was going on and being licked by dogs.
Dessert was consumed a few hours later and there was a great selection of pumpkin pie, apple pie and apple and pumpkin crumble.
Crumble recipe:
equal amounts of cooking apples and pumpkin 900g - both peeled and chopped to similar sizes.cook in a pan with some butter (60g), brown sugar (100g or to personal taste), ground ginger (1tsp), cinnamon (1tsp), ground cloves (1/2tsp) until soft.
