Brunch in Gjelina, Venice, CA

We tried to enjoy the yummy brunch at Gjelina but the urchins spoilt our fun. Gjelina is a super hip Venice hang out with dark walls and floors. The clientèle are often seen with hats placed at a rakish angle, stubble (even the ladies sometimes), low hanging black drain pipe jeans and/or check or some sort. The girls were loud, annoying, and whiny. They wrestled on the banquet, knocked cutlery off the table and covered some people's heads with napkins. Oh and Sophie tipped her water glass over - party trick of the moment. So when the food arrived we bolted it, rather than savored it - paid our bill and skedaddled.
We ordered the poached eggs over soft polenta with braised cavolo nero and grilled bacon, and the pizza with gruyere, caramelized onions, creme fraiche and rocket. The girls had lemon zest ricotta chestnut pancakes with syrup and raspberries...what a life! www.gjelina.com
