sand storm

Santa Monica beach on Saturday - sort of rainy ish and definitely the windiest we've ever seen it.
Funky Christmas tree constructed out of shopping trolleys.

Same day but 10 minutes earlier than the first photo. The grey clounds did appear quickly.

Winter in Santa Monica

Yes its finally here. Temperature has dropped to 57 degrees, most people have stopped wearing shorts and havaianas, and the snow has arrived. Well, not here of course, but a few hundred miles north in the ski resort of Mammoth. We did have an entire day of lashing rain on Monday, so that ws exciting. Not really for Pappy as he has seen rain recently.

Palm Springs Aerial Tram

there was snow up there and it was 50 degrees - brrr - of course the wait to get up and see the snow was so long it was dark up there too by the time we made it. Scarlett did not get on with cold at all.

The Parker, Palm Springs

A truly amazing hotel. This place would normally be too expensive but we had booked somewhere else with Expedia and then as we were setting off, Expedia called to say they had overbooked and would the Parker be ok? Hurrah! And luckily they allowed children which many hotels here do not, as it is a stylish town where you can relax and spend money on fine dining and fine antiques. We found a good place for breakfast 'Koffi' which we decided was like Balans in London. The Parker's breakfast looked devine but then $20 on waffles for the urchins? nah.

It was a superb 84 degrees on Saturday reaching 91 on Sunday.....particularly lovely as it is getting chilly in Santa Monica (63). We did go on the aerial tram to see the snow in the dark. Not quite to plan, but then we had not counted on the hour wait to get on the tram. We were on the 5pm trip and the sun sets at 4.50pm. We were also not really dressed for the snow...
